The Rare Top Decays t → bW + Z and t → cW + W − UCSD/PTH 96–28
The large value of the top quark mass implies that the rare top decays t → bW+Z, sW+Z and dW+Z, and t → cW+W− and uW+W−, are kinematically allowed so long as mt ≥ mW + mZ + mdi ≈ 171.5 GeV + mdi or mt ≥ 2mW + mu,c ≈ 160.6 GeV + mu,c, respectively. The partial decay widths for these decay modes are calculated in the standard model. The partial widths depend sensitively on the precise value of th...
متن کاملConstraints on neutrino - photon interactions from rare Z decays
It is shown that the rare decays Z → ν ¯ νγ and Z → ν ¯ νγγ are useful to put model-independent bounds on neutrino-one-photon and neutrino-two-photon interactions. The results are then used to constrain the τ neutrino magnetic moment µ ντ and the double radiative decay ν j → ν i γγ. It is found that the decay Z → ν ¯ νγ gives a more stringent bound on µ ντ than that obtained from Z → ν ¯ νγγ; t...
متن کاملRare Z Decays ∗ a † Gad
The central role played by rare decays on our understanding of elementary particle physics, is well known, where “rare” stands here for Flavor Changing Neutral Currents (FCNC), which are either small or practically vanishing in the SM. Some highlights: are: 1. In K physics: The first appearance of charm in loops from which mc ≈ 1.5 GeV was predicted [2]. 2. In B physics: The importance of b → s...

متن کاملTheory of Rare B Meson Decays
I review the NLO QCD calculations of the branching ratio for B → Xsγ in the SM. Including the leading electromagnetic corrections, one obtaines BR(B → Xsγ) = (3.32±0.30)×10−4. Confronting theory with the newest data, an updated value for |Vts| is obtained: |Vts| = 0.037±0.007. Theoretical progress on the photon energy spectrum is also discussed. The inclusive FCNC semileptonic decays in the SM ...
